Chapter Services

The local contractors who make up its membership govern each NECA Chapter. Typically the members involve their key management and staff in the development and oversight of chapter services. The result of this broad-based participation is an association that is continually refined to meet the evolving needs of the membership. In addition to local services, members also have access to the staff, programs and resources of the national association (www.necanet.org). Together, these provide NECA members with a comprehensive source of information and an effective vehicle to create positive change in both their local and national business environments.

Why Should I Join NECA?

If you are asking yourself the above question - Why should I join NECA?  Perhaps the following publication and the information below might help you with the answer?

bulletTHIS IS NECA

Please remember two things:

1) As a member you control the association and shape the services that it provides.  If there is something that you feel should be changed or improved, you will have the opportunity to present your ideas.

2) Should you decide to join, and later find that you are not satisfied, you can leave at anytime.

Highlights of Chapter Services

(These successful programs are made possible only through the involvement and leadership of our chapter members)

Empowerment

When an electrical contractor makes the decision to join the association, they find themselves in a very unique situation. This being a position of sufficient control and power to shape their own business environment. Although competitors, NECA members share the same desire for a strong and healthy electrical industry. An appropriate metaphor might be – That instead of simply playing the cards that are dealt to them, NECA members stack the deck to favor contractors that deliver quality services. Here are a few examples of how they raise the bar for construction services: by providing the best in skilled craftsmanship, the most appropriate materials, safe and productive job sites, strong business ethics and integrity and simply the best value for each construction dollar.

Education & Networking Opportunities

One of the most important benefits of NECA membership is the valuable and practical business information gained through attending the Chapter and National NECA educational programs and functions. NECA is proud to offer the best educational product in the industry, the NECA Management Education Institute (NECA-MEI.org).

Equally valuable is the information that is shared among members who attend these functions. NECA members are like a big family, if you need help or advice on anything from which integrated cost-estimating software is right for your size firm to effectively performing (and profiting) from specialty jobs, there are people throughout the country that have the experience and are happy to share it.

Apprentice & Electrician Training

NECA members participate in overseeing a joint IBEW/NECA program for the training of the electrical apprentices and the continual educational of the journeyman electricians.  Here, along with representatives from the IBEW, employers can have a direct say in the selection and training of apprentices.  Area contractors also have input regarding which programs are offered to the journeyman electricians.

For more information about the program contact the NECA Chapter Manager or the JATC Training Director.

Current Programs and Activities:

bulletPlus many more opportunities for learning and information exchange.

Collective Bargaining

The Chapter coordinates the efforts of management in the negotiation and administration of the area collective bargaining Agreements negotiated with our industry partners, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union #234. Our goal in this partnership is to develop and promote conditions, which will simultaneously create an environment that will allow our members to increase market share and their profitability while growing a skilled and motivated workforce. To accomplish this, management and labor meet regularly to discuss issues of common concern.

Management and Labor have equal representation on many important industry programs such as:

bulletThe Joint Apprentice and Training Committee (JATC)
bulletThe Electrical Workers Health and Welfare Trust Fund
bulletMonterey Bay Area Labor Management Cooperative Committee

Individual Member Needs

Members can rely on the Chapter to assist them with the specific problems that they face i.e. Coping with governmental regulations, managing an effective safety program etc. And equally important, the Chapter can help provide the information and resources for the members to take advantage of opportunities as they present themselves. The Chapter serves as an extension of member’s office, ready to be delegated a task to assist them. NECA’s staff consists of the Chapter Manager, Regional Field Representatives and an extensive and specialized National Staff.

The NECA Chapter is capable of serving a wide variety of contractor members. We understand that the needs differ between newer and more established firms, smaller and larger firms and that each firm’s needs change and evolve as they do. The Chapter can also assist in putting members in touch with other members, often in other parts of the country, to provide some helpful insight into an issue.

The NECA member is never alone; they always can rely on the support of the others in the industry who share their drive for success.

Overview of the Administrative Maintenance Fund for the IBEW/NECA Local #234 Inside and Residential Agreements

As indicated in the Agreement language in both the Inside and Residential Agreements, the Administrative Maintenance Fund (AMF) has been put in place for the purpose of funding the Association’s activities necessary to administer the Collective Bargaining Agreements.  All those assenting to the Local #234 IBEW/NECA working Agreements are required to make contributions to the AMF.
